Log 24 Jan 2010 Resource Gathering Night! Start the same as 17JAN10-2 Notes from last week: -Need a basic mechanism for: -Creating another WORKER (EGGS, DRONE, ETC) -Expanding HIVE (add a HEX-OUTLINE) (JOHN's IDEA - use 1 of each color) 2 of same color can equal 1 of any other color. -Play game to test COLONY EXPANSION. NO OPPONENT INTERACTION. UNIT INFO (from 10JAN10) THE HIVE - SP = +4 DRONE - SP= -1; MP=0; AP=1; GP=0 -Can spend 1 DRONE +2 RESOURCE to create 1 WORKER -For now, DRONES have no other purpose. WORKER - SP= -1; MP=1; AP=1; GP=1 -expand colony -gather -fight GATHERER - SP= -1; MP=1; AP=0; GP=2 -Can spend 1 DRONE +2 RESOURCE to create 1 WORKER -For now, DRONES have no other purpose. ***NEW*** Expanding the Hive -Build EXPANSION HEXES adjacent to existing colony. -COST: Requires 2 workers on the HEX and pay 4 RESOURCE CARDS - ***NEW*** Building a new DRONE DRONE costs 1 RESOURCE, -1 SP ***NEW*** Building a new WORKER WORKER costs 1 DRONE, 1 RESOURCE, -1 SP ***NEW*** Building a new GATHERER GATHERER costs 1 DRONE, 2 RESOURCES, -1 SP **NOTE** future version may allow creation from a worker for reduced price New Units spawn at any HEX you own. All Unit Creation must be done at the beginning of your turn, BEFORE MOVING. You may Move/Build WHen you bring GATHER TOKEN back to base: -you may add it to the STOREHOUSE, unflipped. -flip it and draw X cards, where X is # of RESOURCES on the back of the GATHER TOKEN. (Roll 1D3 for each TOKEN) You may only add unflipped GATHER TOKENS to the STOREHOUSE GREY CARDS = BROWN LEAF Flip GATHER TOKENS during UPKEEP. must flip all at one time. Add up total RESOURCES. Draw # RESOURCE CARDS for each RESOURCE. There is a finite number of GATHER TOKENS. (20 for this game) Once all GATHER TOKENS are gone, game ends. For every 2 BROWN LEAVES, remove 1 GATHER TOKEN from the game. 24JAN10-1, John and Jay. 8:45pm ANT UTOPIA. NO CONFLICT. NO EVIL GRASSHOPPERS! Set up - Only 2 rings. Starting Hive on N/S. -SOLID HEXES. 5 of each of the 4 colors. ANCHOR TILE covered. therefore, 20 total HEXES, but only 17 used. 3 unused. Put another HEX-OUTLINE N and S of N/S bases (RING 3) to act as the STOREHOUSE 2 WORKERS 0 RESOURCES 20 GATHER TOKENS 48 RESOURCE CARDS - 10 for each color - RED, GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW 8 for BROWN LEAF (GREY) MOVE/GATHER on same turn. for unflipped HEX TILES, roll D3 to determine RESOURCE POOL. put 1 GATHER TOKEN on HEX for each RESOURCE POOL Color of RESOURCE cards is irrelevant ------------------------------------------------------------------------ John went first. John predicts that there may be a chance for certain games where the initial few rounds make it hard for a player to do well. John/Jay. Early Turns are boring since there's no other options to do. Changed the TOKEN flipping to allowing you to flip them at the end of the turn you bring them to your base. Jay suggested if you come to a HEX with no TOKENS, you may roll a D3 -1 and put that many TOKENS on the spot. We don't know how much this would cost. We didn't use it. TURN ORDER: Hatch New Units Move/Gather/Expand STORE/FLIP TOKENS Rule change to make storing the RESOURCE cards as the way to win the game again. long discussion on how to flip tokens and store resources. jay's idea. you have to store them IMMEDIATELY after you flip. in fact, you need to set aside the tokens you want to store, then flip them. it's random. you don't know how many you will store until you flip. JOHN: not sure why you would even start storing. what is the entropy mechanism? ONce you start storing, though, I think it will all work ok. it will be in a feedback loop with the brown leaves. Maybe you need a gratification mechanism to entice storing. Jay, free moving in your colony might be a good idea. If you are on a space without TOKENS, roll a D3-1 and put that many TOKENS on the space. THIS IS FREE. you may immediately gather them if you want. Talked about maybe adding a token on the spot to inidicate you did a D3-1, but that seemed clunky (to John). So we said it's always D3-1. John also suggests only GATHERERS can do this ability. For Next LOOP: Changes: 1. Movement inside COLONY costs nothing. Essentially it's one big space. 2. GATHERERS can do a D3-1 ability on an empty HEX tile. 3. DECISION must be made AS SOON AS any TOKENS enter the COLONY. (may be questionable) -STOREHOUSE Or HAND -move TOKENS to SELECTED ZONE. FLIP and DRAW RESOURCES 4. COUNT # Colored HEXES in your COLONY. DRAW # RESOURCE CARDS = COUNT. -implication is the potential to draw 2 BROWN LEAVES -corrolary to this is: You need good motivation to keep expanding. Free Movement may or may not be enough of a motivation. Explore this idea. -***NOTE*** -need to figure out if these go to the storehouse automatically or not. -JOHN suggests we try this first. it is a STRONG ENTROPY mechanism. -If you choose to give a choice, the resources need to be drawn at the end of the turn, when the TOKENS are resolved. 5. Each time 2 BROWN LEAVES are drawn together, add 1 to the DOOM track. -Each time 1 BROWN LEAF is drawn, ALL players incur penalty. - Possible Penalties: - LOSE UNITS, RESOURCES, COLONY HEXES, DRONES, etc. or GRASSHOPPER enters game. 6.
